Happy π Day 2024 !!
It’s the 14th of March, and written in the US date style, it is 3.14, which is an approximation of π. You can find a lot of info on π day here on Wikipedia.
Memorising digits of π is not an uncommon activity amongst number enthusiasts. At one time, about 30 years ago, I could recite a tad over 200 digits, but now, I can confidently recite only the first 100 decimal digits of π.
One of my long-held objectives is to memorise the first 500 decimal digits of π. On this π Day 2024, I am setting myself a loftier goal of getting the first 1000 decimal digits of pi memorised by π Day 2025 (A square π day, if you will 🙂 ).
Since I already have the first 100 in place, I’d need to memorise 900 digits over a period of 365 days, which is a little less than 3 digits a day on an average.
Now, getting to memorising the first 1000 decimal digits of π, and retaining them, isn’t going to be easy. I hope to keep you posted on my adventures and learnings along the way.
More later, but now I need to get to digits 101 to 103 😀
